Vocal is built around the idea that creators should get paid for their work. There are several ways to earn, and they stack - the more you publish and grow your audience, the more earning streams open up to you.

Any reader can send you a tip directly from one of your stories or from your profile page. Tips are one-time payments - think of them as a reader saying "this was worth paying for."

Tips go through Stripe and land in your Vocal Wallet. The processing fee depends on your account:

To receive tips, you need a Stripe account connected to your Wallet. Without it, readers will see the tip option but you won't be able to collect anything.

If you have a Vocal+ membership, you earn from reads on your stories. Read earnings are exclusive to Vocal+ - free accounts can track their read stats but don't earn from them.

A "read" on Vocal isn't just a click. It measures real engagement - time on page, scroll depth, interaction with embedded content. Bots and bounces don't count. This means your read earnings reflect a genuine audience, not inflated numbers.

Reads add up over time, especially on evergreen content that keeps getting discovered through search and sharing.

Vocal+ members can publish Exclusive Stories - premium content for paid subscribers on your author page. Subscription earnings go to your Wallet through Stripe.

Exclusive Stories are enabled by default in your Settings. When you publish, mark a story as exclusive instead of submitting it to a community. See What are exclusive stories? for the full overview.

The Vocal team sends cash bonuses directly to your Wallet to recognize great work. You don't apply for them - they come to you. Bonuses are issued for things like:

Bonuses show up immediately in your Wallet and can be withdrawn once you hit the minimum threshold.

Win a Challenge and the prize goes straight to your Wallet as a Creator Bonus, paid out 45 days after winners are announced. Challenge prizes range widely depending on the contest - check each Challenge page for specifics.

Receiving tips, read earnings, subscription earnings, and bonuses all require a connected Stripe account. Stripe is also required before you can publish any story. Connect it from your Wallet - it takes about five minutes and you only do it once.

If you're outside the US, check that Stripe is available in your country and that your account type (Standard vs. Express) supports payouts in your region.
