There are two ways to connect with a creator on Vocal:
Free subscribe (follow)
Subscribing for free means you follow a creator and get notified when they publish public stories.
Go to their author page and click Subscribe, or use the Subscribe block inside a story. No payment, no commitment.
To unfollow, click Subscribe again on their profile or manage subscriptions in your account settings.
Paid subscription (exclusive stories)
Paid subscriptions unlock a creator's Exclusive Stories - premium content on their author page.
Start a paid subscription from the creator's author page or from a preview of an exclusive story. You'll get full access, notifications for new exclusive stories, and subscriber-only comments.

For creators
Free subscribers are readers who opted into notifications - they help each new public story get immediate traffic.
Paid subscribers support your exclusive content directly. See How do I offer exclusive stories? to get set up (Vocal+ and Stripe required).
The Subscribe block in the editor helps turn readers into free followers while they're already engaged with your work.
